According to reports, Kanye West is planning to propose to Kim Kardashian once her divorce from Kris Humphries is finalized, and his late mother Donda West is going to play a big role in the proposal. Reportedly, the hip-hop star has asked a jeweler to design Kim’s engagement ring using diamonds and rubies from his beloved mom’s jewelry collection. A source told RadarOnline:
“Kanye picked out some of Donda’s most expensive pieces, including some diamond earrings and a ruby ring. He then gave them to a private jeweler friend to make Kim a one-of-a-kind engagement ring.”
Although most people are probably questioning why Kanye would want to part with his mother’s jewels and give them to someone with such a questionable relationship history, the “All of the Lights” rapper apparently feels the reality TV starlet is worth it. The source said:
“Donda was such an important person in Kanye’s life, he thought the world of her and was devastated when she died. So, he kept all her jewelry as keepsakes – a lot of the pieces were items he bought over the years after he made it as a hip-hop star. And now, Kanye has found a woman he respects and loves just as much as his mom, so he wants to share her jewelry collection with Kim.”
Not surprisingly, ‘Ye’s friends think it’s a horrible idea, and are totally against it. The source added:
“His friends think it’s a terrible idea and are advising him not to give Kim the ring. Because it’s a gift, it would be difficult for Kanye to ask for it back if they ever split up.”
Donda, 58, died in 2007 following a series of plastic surgeries, including a breast reduction, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. An autopsy later revealed her death was caused by a coronary artery disease and various complications from plastic surgery.
Kanye seems to be in love, so I’m not mad at him for wanting to propose. But I hope he reconsiders sacrificing his mother’s jewels in what could end up being another 72-day marriage fiasco.
