CLTR+SHIFT+SPACE is one hell of a cool concept and most definitely for anyone looking to broaden their minds and move away from their usual Saturday night antics. The exhibition is a collaboration between local artists and writers to facilitate a discussion about the control of space in contemporary culture.

The project is facilitated by Inhouse ARI and three local writers, Lisa Bryan-Brown, Nicola Scott, and Tara Heffernan will curate with two artists each about relevant issues close to the artistic community and more widely to the greater community. The political issues such as surveillance, capitalism, and security are interwoven into the talks to contemplate not only artistic creation but everyday traditions and rituals. Mundane activities such as walking to your workplace, copying spreadsheets, printing 150 files, and getting your mid-afternoon coffee are all topics of discussion as it pertains to the issue of workplace culture and constant monitoring of society. The office space of the exhibition highlights this fact.

The exhibiting artists, Caitlin Franzmann, Leena Riethmuller, Callum Galletly, Ruth McConchie, Kat Danger-Sawyer, Kiah Reading, and Catherine or Kate are all waiting to show you their incredible works of art, and share their views and engage in conversation on issues that are relevant to understanding our existence.

This is a free event and one night only so get onto it and skip the beer bong with your friends, or at least hold it off until after the exhibition. It’s on tomorrow and starts at 6pm, finishing 9pm at Level Three, 200 Adelaide Street, Brisbane (there’s a bus stop right in front). For more information on CLTR+SHIFT+SPACE visit Inhouse Ari’s website. This event is a part of the 2014 BARI festival, check out their website for more events.
